The inspiration for Tradestamp came from personal experiences of using the internet to find tradespeople and from speaking with small businesses who expressed a desire to market themselves on the web but were unsure of where to invest their marketing budget.
The Customer's Need
Unable to find a recommendation from members of his family, friends or colleagues, David Hance resorted to using the internet to find the Tradesperson he needed to sort out problems with his recently purchased house.
In the first instance, he was frustrated by the hassle of making initial contact with tradespeople. It involved endless searches of directories and websites followed by telephone calls when he'd repeat the same message over and over again. He needed to keep careful track of who he'd called and the outcome of each call.
He was frustrated by the poor service he received even before he hired someone. Appointments made to survey the work prior to giving a quote were often not kept. In some cases tradesmen would arrive late and in many instances, they wouldn't turn up at all.
The damage caused by the incompetence of the heating engineer he eventually hired to do the work proved to be more costly to repair than the price of the original work.
The Service Provider's Need
The majority of new business for successful service providers comes from customer recommendations.
Any gaps in their workload are filled by new customers who are unable to find recommendations from people they know.
An increasing number of these prospective customers use the internet to source their service providers. So businesses who want to capture this business must have an online presence.
People searching the internet rarely bother to go beyond the first couple of results pages to find what they're looking for. That means that businesses have to appear within the top 20 results if prospective customers are going to find them. The choices open to them are:
- Register their business in an online directory
- Market their business using their own website
The problem is that the internet is awash with trade directories and many charge a premium for a high profile position. A link to the businesses own website may also be possible for an additional fee. Service providers
are faced with the dilemma of deciding where to list their business in order to get a decent return on their investment.
Businesses who rely upon their own website to get noticed either need to use pay per click advertising or invest in optimising their website so that its page ranking increases enough for it to appear in the top results pages.
Our web services team specialise in helping small businesses with the optimisation of their website. You may like to visit our Web Services Pages to see how we can help.

Customers post there service or trade requirements, free of charge, using a simple one page form.
Immediately, businesses covering the customer’s area are alerted by email and text message.
All the businesses who are alerted are listed for the customer who has access to their profile and their service history. They may also visit the service provider's website using a direct link.
Businesses, for which we’ve received positive feedback from their customers, will have a status of Approved. These businesses alone are able to contact the customer directly.
Once the work is completed, customers are invited to post feedback about the service they received. Future customers will be encouraged to book the services of businesses that can show a history of satisfied customers.

SERVICE PROVIDERS
We operate a "No Win No Fee" charging model which means that service providers are charged only if they win business as a result of a lead sent by Tradestamp.
What does it cost?
- There is no charge to register your business
- There are no annual administration or any other fixed fees to pay
- You will not be charged for receiving new customer leads or for accessing customers' contact details
- We operate on a “No Win No Fee” basis. If a customer who is introduced to you via a service requirement posted on Tradestamp.com or one of our other affiliated websites agrees to employ your services, you will be charged a “Success” fee amounting to a proportion of the value of business won.
- We apply three different charging streams, each based on the concept of a Success Fee. When you have been granted “Approved Status” you will be invited to choose one of the charging streams below that best suits your business and personal preferences
Stream 1
A success fee equating to 1% of the value of the business* won will be applied providing you introduce coding, supplied by Tradestamp, into your company’s website so that an outbound link from your company's website to tradestamp.com and an additional affiliated website of our choosing is activated.
Stream 2
A success fee equating to 1.5% of the value of the business won* will be applied if your business does have a link from your company website to tradestamp.com but does not agree or is unable to provide links from your company's website to an additional affiliated website, of our choosing.
Stream 3
A success fee equating to 2% of the value of the business won* will be applied if your business does not agree or is unable to provide links from your company's website to tradestamp.com and an additional affiliated website, of our choosing.
*For some service providers, the value of business won will be based upon the average cost of providing that service. For example, for Driving schools, we will apply the average number of driving lessons taken by the average pupil (as per the DSA’s own statistics) and the average cost of a driving lesson nationwide.
* Where the total cost of a service being provided can not be ascertained at the point at which the service provider is engaged by a customer using Tradestamp, for example, when instructing a solicitor, we will base the success fee on the final bill charged to the customer on completion of the service.
